CONCOVID CLINICAL TRIAL
Convalescent Plasma Therapy

Convalescent Plasma Therapy from Recovered Patients to Treat Severe SARS-CoV-2

The CONCOVID clinical trial is a multicenter clinical trial, coordinated by Erasmus University Medical Center (Erasmus MC), that tests whether immune plasma from patients that recovered from COVID-19 can be injected into patients that are sick with severe COVID-19 as a form of therapy.

Such therapies known as passive immunotherapy have been used against infections for many years. It takes advantage of the fact that patients recovered from COVID-19 will have antibodies that fight against the virus. When we transfer plasma we transfer these antibodies that block and eliminate the virus in the sick patient.

The CONCOVID clinical trial currently one of the largest randomized clinical trial that treats sick patients with immune plasma from patients that recovered from COVID-19.

The study will include 400 patients from multiple clinical centers in the Netherlands.
